How we work

Methodology

What we cover, where our data comes from and how we quote prices.

What we cover and how we pick stories

Silvia News covers nine sections: Markets, Earnings, Macro, Filings, Deals & IPOs, Indexes & ETFs, Tech & AI, Energy, Commodities & Crypto and Policy & Regulation.

Stock-mover coverage draws on S&P 500 members; a stock qualifies on a move of at least 4% (or top-5 gainer/decliner) on volume at least 1.5x its 30-day average, with a traceable catalyst. Economy coverage is built from official releases (Federal Reserve, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Bureau of Economic Analysis, Treasury).

How we quote prices

We quote prices at the official market close (4 p.m. ET, or 1 p.m. ET on early-close days). Daily changes are measured from the previous official close.

Data sources

Primary sources such as SEC filings, company releases and official government data, plus licensed market data, confirmed against a second source. Every figure is attributed to a named source, linked where one is available.

Calculations

Year-to-date returns compare the latest close with the Dec. 31 close, for the stock and the S&P 500. Average volume is the average number of shares traded over the previous 30 trading days. How far a stock is from its 52-week high is measured with closing prices. Valuation measures such as price-to-earnings ratios are Silvia calculations from the closing price and the company's published figures.

How Silvia News is made

Silvia News uses agentic AI technology to research and draft stories about markets, companies and the economy from public data and documents. Every story cites its sources, goes through a separate fact-check against primary sources such as company filings, earnings releases, official government data and exchange data, and is approved by a member of our editorial team before it's published. We don't conduct interviews or report from the field. If we get something wrong, we correct it openly. See our Corrections Policy.

What we don't do

We don't base stories on prices from before the market opens, conduct interviews, or make investment recommendations.
